The limit of law

Devorgilla Briidge In Dumfries. In the 12th century at the time of the first crossing ( the present bridge was repaired in the 17th century from a 14th century version) Galloway on the West Bank was not part of Scotland. As a result, the Brig’en became a den for escapers from justice. Thieves, murderers, etc, only had to get across this bridge!- Today Brig’en is called Maxwellton and only became part of Dumfries in the 20th century.
