Birthday bird

The Monsignor loves birds, so I'm giving him this one for his birthday tomorrow, along with a copy of "Wesley the Owl." 
(Whichever blippers recommended that book to me, thank you!! I loved it and have been passing on the recommendation.)

I don't know what to call this artwork, made about 15 years ago on a scrap of black matboard with water-soluble Caran d'Ache crayons and acrylics. Is it a drawing or a painting? I'm fond of it, but art is best when it leaves the hands of the artist and puts a smile on someone else's face.
