The shadow of time

75 years ago today, in 1944, the D-Day landing occurred. This pebble was collected by myself from Omaha Beach during a visit there a decade ago whilst I was still in the Royal Air Force. It sits on my desk to remind me how brave others were. What heroism and tragedy was this inanimate object witness to all those years ago?
The ensign it is resting on? That is a family heirloom, the story of which I'll save for another time...
