Flight back

I left South Africa and returned to Maputo, although not without an argument with the check-in agent about whether I had to possess a return ticket to get past Mozambican immigration. She argued that I did and that she was graciously doing me a favour by allowing me to board. I argued that the next time I leave will be overland because of the annoying 30-day stamp requirement, and that it would be hard to provide advance evidence of a quick bob to Swaziland. Perhaps if it would suffice I could later mail on to Johannesburg Airport a clipping of a warm piece of car seat upholstery after my ass has been on it for the two-hour drive to the border.

Twilight was nearly upon me by the time I reached my apartment in Maputo. As usual my electricity meter was down to zero so I had to venture out immediately to purchase credit and groceries. Then followed an incredibly dull evening of doing work admin and credit card statements. Finance colleagues in Cambridge are apoplectic with rage with me at the moment. My pleas about being on the road for the last five weeks have fallen on deaf ears.
