Bowes

To Barnard Castle as the first destination on a trip to the North East. It is a most pleasant small town, with a disappointing actual castle but some great views along Teesdale.

The main destination was the Bowes Museum, a fascinating 19th century purpose-built museum/gallery in the style of a French chateau. In addition to its famous 18th century silver swan automaton, some terrific paintings and an exhibition of fashion photography (in which this camera was an exhibit - and this one) I took a leg-selfie on the stairs.
