I had to a mandatory online course on ‘Preventing Discrimination and Harassment.’

I was going through the assessment when a meeting formed at the desk next to me, just as this question popped up on my screen:

One of the the dudes started giggling and said he was rushing back to his desk because the training course was definitely going to be the highlight of his working week. He asked if there was a section about gingers as he feels that he has been victimised for his entire life because of his hair colour. I had to let him down gently and explain that it is probably alright for people to abuse him for being ginger because it isn’t a protected characteristic. Just as long as they didn’t call him an OLD ginger tw@t.

C
