DJANGO: Unchained__A Review

TYPICALLY TARANTINO (Quintain)
Under his direction, you know there will be blood, lots of blood and violence. Along _with comedy, riveting dialogue, magnificent acting and dramatic pop music
Be prepared for a long ride, 2 hours and 45 minutes.
My advice, snag a seat close to the restroom.

A SPAGHETTI WESTERN
Set in the deep South. 2 yrs. before the Civil War.
This is a take-no-prisoners view of slavery.
_Blacks are property with little value. We watch them whipped, shackled,
torn apart by dogs, and generally, beaten into submission.
_All of this delivered, improbably, Spaghetti Western Style.
Well, the story does begin in Texas

A BUDDY QUEST
Slavery-Hating Bounty Hunter_Dr. King Schultz (Chris Walz)
_Makes Django (Jamie Foxx) a free man. They ride side by side on horseback chasing down an endless bounty of bad guys. Then join forces to save Djambo's wife from the clutches of an evil plantation owner.
_Most of the movie's humor comes from the perfectly timed dialogue between these two.

VILLAINS
Abusive plantation owner_ Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio)
_He deals in the Mandingo Fighting Trade. Super buff slaves fight one-on-one to the death. Enjoyed by a wealthy audience with big bucks bet on the winner.
_Evil Head House Slave_Steven (Samuel L. Jackson)
_He's been on the plantation for 70 years, and is the "hands-on" Master.
He's allowed anywhere, gives orders to whites and blacks. Pays the bills, writes the checks, and makes sure the cotton gets picked. All the while taking delicious enjoyment in the evil-doings of Calvin Candie.

THE 'N' WORD
_The most hated word in the English language. One that causes a flinch each time it's heard. Used 100 x's in this movie. Controversial. You bet.
Yet, this was the word used to refer to the slaves.

MY RATING
_I thought the movie a masterpiece. Unbelievably blending the stark realism of slavery with humor. Not a weakness to be found in the action, snappy dialogue, and cinematography
_However, the last 30 minutes was over the top with gratuitous violence. The screen dripping with blood. Overkill.
This ending, that could so easily have been cut, jarred me away from the "real" movie.
