Dinner Time
Linlithgow Loch really needs an island, we said, viewing the unrelieved expanse of water, as swans grubbed along the hard edge of the path.
Then, we spotted an island - a tiny, little island covered in sticks, with a pink buoy to indicate its position.
And this island was entirely occupied by a coot, not just one but at least three - the mother and at least two chicks, which came alive as father coot constantly brought in food, passed it to the mother, who fed the chicks. It was a treat to watch them.
Extra photo - mother reading bedtime story to the children.
