Ragged Robin
A lovely sunny morning for our visit to Rodley Nature Reserve.
What a wonderful happy relaxing few hours.
After the floods of a few years ago, the ponds are now looking good. Such a lot of hard work has all been worthwhile. So that had to be my main blip, and the ragged robin is one of my favourite wild flowers.
Again nice to see so many families enjoying the Reserve too. Lots of pond dipping taking place.
One young boy with his mum and dad was thrilled when we pointed out the little owl. His dad said he had been coming for about 5 years hoping to see the owl, and so was pleased to see it at last.
It was a great day for birds too.
Starting with the bullfinches, jay, and then the little owl, which Mr C spotted. It was so well hidden in the tree it was a few minutes before I could see it too.
On the lakes were young great crested greebs,
Mallards, coots, and geese, and a quick sighting of a kingfisher.
Dozens of sand martins swooping in and out of the nests
We then walked down to the river, to be greeted with the melodious song of the song thrush.
What a lovely end to our visit.
Will be back again soon.
Now back home, and just watched Georgia Taylor-Brown win the World Triathlon in Leeds.
Very well done to her and the other four GB athletes who came in the top 10.
Looking forward to the men’s race which is about to start soon.
Good luck to the Brownlee brothers.
