Papua New Guinea Orchid
Today I surprised myself by discovering that I must -contrary to all previously held belief- be an optimist, somewhere in the deepest, darkest reaches of my soul. There can be no other explanation to account for my going to see Les Mis at the pictures with the expectation of actually enjoying it, despite having seen both stage and screen versions in years gone by, AND despite the fact that the film title's a bit of a giveaway, isn't it?
Let me qualify my previous statement -I am clearly both optimistic and completely stupid.
In other news, a very busy day getting heaps of things done. It left little time for finding a blip, replying to comments or cruising journals, though. (But I will get there!) So I resorted to traipsing through the back garden in the late afternoon (before the mosquitos descended en masse), where I found this New Guinea orchid in flower. Apparently it's a pest, but I've always liked its bright colours and unusual arrangement of six petals curled to form an open ball.
