Sunday: Ecosystems
After breakfast, we headed to Avatar Grove to experience the old growth forest and see Canada's gnarliest tree. I can't claim to have seen every gnarly tree in Canada but this has to be right up there. It's also a pretty stunning walk.
We drove back via the San Juan Burial Ground (First Nations cemetery) before heading to Botanical Beach for low tide. It really is one of my absolute favourite spots - the ecosystem is one of the most diverse in the world. This particular type of seaweed makes a wonderful popping sound when you squeeze it - a bit like nature's bubble wrap.
Joe is in a constant state of expectation that every bend in the road is going to bring him face to face with a bear. I hate to tell him that if was 18 months before we saw one!
Dinner and a few games of pool in the local pub tonight.
