Ventura Boulevard

Matt, OilMan, Gus the dog and I went to a coffee place on Ventura Boulevard and I snapped this picture while we sat at a table on the sidewalk drinking our coffee and watching the world go by as it only can in L.A..... a  woman drove up on a rented electric scooter, dropped it on the sidewalk and went inside for coffee.  another woman with a baby on her back and a big dog crossed the street, dropped the dog at doggy day care, and went back across the street with the baby, the owner of the coffee place,  a lovely Argentinian lady, brought us coffee and empañadas and told me that Matt was a good father and she was sure he was a good son. I could have sat there all day but it was already getting hot.

It has been interesting, as always, to watch Matthew fit seamlessly into a household of women (3) and dogs (4). He has adjudicated  nail polish color and shoe choices, made plates of cheesy eggs for Claire and delivered them to her room and kept everyone on track time -wise.  While Amy was racing home from work with 30 minutes to do Claire’s hair* Matt made sure the curling iron was turned on and heating up. There was much talk about bras but he was not consulted and didn’t not volunteer any opinion on that subject. I wasn't consulted either, but I could not see how any bra could be concealed beneath those dresses....

In the meantime, OilMan has gone out into the heat in search of some replacement prescription pills for the ones he forgot to bring and some batteries for his hearing aids which he also forgot.

It being far too hot to go outside,  I sat on the couch with the dogs, watching life swirl by, having conversations with whoever happened to swirl past and marveling at Irma, who has worked for Matt and Amy since the girls were babies, bringing order out of chaos...sometimes picking up and replacing the same piles of discarded items more than once. She went to Julia’s graduation last year and will be joining us again this evening for Claire’s.

This is, of course Claire’s day, but I will save her for tomorrow when the festivities are over....
