Free rein
It's 6 weeks now since my hip replacement surgery and I have discarded my stick. It's so good to be able to walk without pain. Today I ambled contentedly around the salt marshes of the Afon Nyfer estuary, examining the tide-formed assemblages of seaweed, sticks and crab cases while Raki chased the gulls across the sand. They always wait until she is nearly upon them before they rise with lazy insolence beyond her reach.
Raki, at 10 months, is a delightful dog and an excellent companion who (nearly) always comes when called. It means her long lead can be dropped to allow her to walk and run free in suitable spaces. Despite her origin on a Greek island she hates water and won't even get her feet wet.
Extra: a buff tip moth, extraordinarily disguised as a fragment of twig.
