The Olympia
Yesterday I was in the West of the City. Today its another architecture shot but from the East end of the City.
Its actually great to be able to take a picture of this building fully restored after years lying derelict.
Originally opened in 1911 as a varety theatre.
It lay derelict for years and there was a bad fire in 2004 when someone who was sleeping rough died.
The biggest part of the £10 million regeneration was the replacement of the restored dome lifted into place by a 60ft crane. I passed it a few times while the operation was in progress.
It reopened recently with a public library and a cafe open daily. I believe there is also a performance area, and office space - part of which will be occupied by the headquarters for the national governing body for amateur boxing.
