Boxing Day quiz answer..

Congratulations to those who got the answer, and a big sorry to blip friends round the world who were confused about a couple of English references. "Boxing Day" describes a British secular holiday on the 26th December (unless the 26th is a Sunday in which case it is the 27th.) There are lots of theories about the word - but the most common one is that tradesmen received their Christmas Box of presents from customers on that day.

"Good King Wenceslas" is a popular Christmas carol (written in Victorian times) that tells a story of Good King Wenceslas - a 10th century duke in Bohemia - braving harsh winter weather to give alms to a poor peasant on the Feast of Stephen (the second day of Christmas, December 26). During the journey, his page is about to give up the struggle against the cold weather, but is enabled to continue by following the king's footprints, step for step, through the deep snow.

The third verse describes what the king says to his page before they set out.

"Bring me flesh, and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither:
Thou and I shall see him dine, when we bear them thither. "
Page and monarch, forth they went, forth they went together;
Through the rude wind's wild lament and the bitter weather.

Hence yesterday's blip!
