Antibes, Côte d’Azur: French Riviera

A glimpse from our lodgings in Antibes.

After yesterday's long drive from the south of Murcia province to Alicante (Valencia), today we make our way to Antibes.  So we take a flight from Alicante to Barcelona, then a flight from Barcelona to Nice, and finally a bus to Antibes.  Weather is hot, and the long journey has been rather tiring.

We are in the communes of Antibes or Juan-les-Pins - I don't know where the boundaries are.  If I go down westwards I will be in Antibes, originally an ancient Greek settlement.

A walk down eastwards brings me to Juan-les-Pins, a seaside resort dating back to the 19th Century.  This has a wonderful beach and stunning early twentieth-century hotels. - frequented by Charlie Chaplin, F Scott (and Zelda) Fitzgerald, Marlene Dietrich, Picasso, Rita Hayworth, Edith Piaf, Roger Moore..... or for the musically inclined: Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie..... and no doubt many more.
