Unexpected Iris
Just having my usual stroll round the garden this morning before the rain came and I was amazed to see this group of purple Iris in the border behind the conservatory. They weren't there last time I looked, which was only a few days ago:-) TJ hadn't seen them either, so they must have shot up really quickly.
They are not as sturdy looking as a normal Iris, but the flower is definitely the right shape (see Extra). One of the reasons we decided to leave the garden for a year before making any major changes to the borders!
If you have been watching "Springwatch" you will know exactly what the weather is like here - cold and wet and even windy. So much for "flaming June"!
