Tongue - Durness
Day two.
Distance: 30 miles
Weather: Sun, snow.
Wind: North-westerly (in our faces)
Fuelled-up on porridge and coffee, we crossed the causeway at Tongue and were hit by a blasting northerly wind from the Atlantic. Our shortest day, but at that point it felt impossible.
Luckily, once we started the climb from Tongue we realised the wind was just being channeled up the Kyle and wasn't so bad away from the sea, although it had changed direction and was in our faces again the whole day.
Incredible scenery again as the mountains of the north-west were topped with snow.
We went through all seasons again, but it was a great day and we managed a picnic lunch sitting by the Polla River at the end of Loch Eriboll. We even made it to Durness in time for the footy and some welcome beers.
Stayed in the chilly youth hostel at Durness, which was empty apart from a dozen fat snoring bikers at the end of the corridor.
