Valedictory Wreath Laying

At this time of year when the students are leaving their term time flats to go home for the summer, all sorts of articles are left out on the street for the bin men to dispose of. Usually the bigger items tend to be somewhat stained mattresses, well used for want of a better description and all manner of broken storage units.
This is the first time I have seen what looks like a Christmas wreath strategically placed at the foot of a tree. Rather than looking like jetsam, it seems to blend in with the spirit of the surroundings. I wonder how long it will last there.

There was shock on discovering that the rain had stopped this morning when I opened the blinds. Not that there was actual sunshine, but it looked settled enough to exit the house without full waterproof protection to make my way to meet a school friend in town. We favoured the Ivy restaurant which unusually was quite empty. My theory was that the tourists had foregone a coffee in favour of seeing Edinburgh while it wasn’t raining.

It’s Friday again and there is the glass of wine with my name on it in the Marriott. There will be just two of us tonight - the other two are living it up in Valencia for the weekend. Oh, and here to celebrate is a rare burst of sunshine. The Gods are surely favouring us stay at homes.
