CannyScot's Day

Aira Force Waterfall

A mixed day of rain and sunshine

Our return home from Kendal turned out a lot more interesting than we expected. We drove over the Kirkstone Pass on the way to Ullswater. The Pass, at 1,489 feet, is the highest in the Lake District that you can drive over. In fact, it is the 3rd highest in England.

It was rather wet at this stage but it cleared up as we descended to Ullswater. It was there that we came across Aira Force, which we had never heard of but is an impressive waterfall. We donned our boots and climbed up the half mile path to the viewpoint. It certainly was a powerful force of water and well worth the effort.

We returned to our journey until we reached the Allanwater Service Station in South Scotland. There is a lovely stretch of water and we walked round it, bringing me to a total of 16 miles I had walked during our week away, something I had never done in the last 20 years.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable holiday but, as usual, it was nice to back in our own home.
