The ring around the moon

As I took the dog out for his final wee this evening, I noticed a huge, faint ring around the moon. I have never seen anything like it, although some of you can probably explain the phenomenon. It prompted me to try and capture it using my 'starry skies' setting on my camera. I have never used it before but will definitely use it again. This was a 60 second exposure.
