Banteay Srey

We took a tuk-tuk out to the landmine museum today. The museum traced the work of one man Aki Ra who from being conscripted as a child soldier for the Khmer Rouge at 10, later fought for the Vietnamese and has now devoted his life to removing landmines. He's the same age as me and something of an inspiration, it was a sobering experience. After 25 years of war there are estimated to be 5 million landmines left in Cambodia, our tuk-tuk driver told us about how he'd found one by his farm as a child.

We moved on to Banteay Srey, which roughly translated means Citadel of Women. Made out of pink sandstone, it's is one of the best preserved and has some of the most intricate designs of all the temples. It's quite a long way out but is very popular, we went in the afternoon when the guide book suggests it's not so busy, I think quite a lot of other people had read the book too, but it was well worth the trip.
