Another day working for Alan and another day of sightseeing for me, although I only covered 7 miles today (17,690 steps).
I headed to the Jewish Quarter (Josefov) and visited the old Jewish Cemetery, the Maisel Synagogue, the Ceremonial Hall, the Pinkas Synagogue and the Klaus Synagogue. It was incredibly interesting but also very moving, particularly the exhibition of children’s drawings and paintings that were done when in the Ghetto, Terezin. Most of these children died in 1942 and a suitcase was found with these paintings, all with their names and ages detailed. I’ve added a couple of extras from the cemetery if you’re interested.
From there, I went to see the Franz Kafka statue which is a huge silver head that revolves, and then I went to the little bar by the river again for a glass of rosé.
Fortunately Alan finished his meeting early, so I went to meet him, but the weather rapidly changed and there were rumbles of thunder and then the heavens opened - the rain was very heavy so we took shelter in a bar and shared a small carafe of wine.
Back at the hotel, they had a bathroom we could use to freshen up, and then we had dinner in the restaurant, where the food was amazing, and actually better than the restaurant last night.
The hotel driver picked us up at 7.15pm and we’re now checked in for our flight home. Unfortunately there’s a school trip on our flight full of very immature girls, who the teacher has no control over, so I don’t think it’s going to be very peaceful!
Update: we’re sat on the plane, delayed by an hour and a half, surrounded by these unruly girls, and their teacher isn’t saying anything. The air hostess has told them to have some respect, but they’re really taking no notice. Anyway, I lost it and ended up shouting at them to shut up! It’s bloody mental torture!
