Watcher in the woods

Driving along the road the other day I caught a glimpse of what looked like a woman standing under a tree - odd, but not impossible on a nice summers day.   Was walking along the same road today chattering with my friend and there she was again - exactly the same place, same clothes.  We went over to investigate and on closer inspection it is a wooden painting of a woman attached to the tree trunk.  Why, and who did it, we have no idea.  Might be an innocent explanation but I can't help finding it a little bit creepy!
