Comarum palustre
Or Purple Marshlocks or Marsh Cinquefoil
This beauty is described as nationally rare but locally common, yet today was a first for me. Its an absolute stunner. A member of the Potentilla genus (it used to be called Potentilla palustris) but its really quite different to any others I've seen. On closer inspection the large petal like parts of the flower are actually sepals, the petals are the same colour but much smaller.
Found on a glorious walk through New Park Tarn Moss.
