A genuine No Road sign
Because there never was a road! it has stood in the middle of a Drover's track over the moor from Hutton le Hole to Castleton for hundreds of years.
The person who carved it mis-spelled Pickering as Pikrin but then he probably did as well as could be expected with the limited space on the stone.
These signs were very welcome to travellers in the days when trudging the 15 miles over the moor had to be done mostly on foot as the going was too rough or treacherous with bogs in many places
