Peek-a-boo

Unlike yesterday's nice uniform PV graph, today's was more like shark's teeth. After an overnight thunderstorm, the sun did peek out for a couple of hours mid-morning before the next storm arrived early afternoon. However, more than double our electricity needs covered & so we could sell some.

Set off for the early morning walk in drizzle seeking the shelter of the forest but it quickly stopped. The hunter's high chair is looking almost attractive but less functional than normal. Not sure if hunter or deer says "I see you". 50 m from here I saw a lovely fox - luckily Luna didn't pick up the scent as it was 20m away from the path. She is supposed to be a herding dog but has no interest, much preferring scent & chasing.
(With yet again late posting hindsight, I think the same fox was on our horse field the following evening, just after the chickens went to bed).

The white flowering elderberry at the side of the high chair is a nagging annual reminder that I always miss. I have never done it and only tasted it once about 15 years ago, fried elderflower. Delicious & really simple on a warm evening with a glass of beer after a BBQ.

Elderflower crown dipped in batter, fried in oil & dusted with icing sugar, eaten lukewarm. Here a video - self-explanatory. This one is for a white wine batter, beer also often used & if children involved, use milk. Adjust to get the right stickiness.

Here the recipe used but I can't vouch for the number of elderflowers. She says in the video the batter was enough for about 18 heads (but recipe shows 8) which was far too much for 4 people as they are very filling.
8 elderflowers
1 pinch of salt
1 egg
150 ml white wine
125 g flour (+Baking soda) but self-raising in the UK
Some grated lemon rind plus a few drops of juice
Fat/oil for deep-frying
Icing sugar for topping

Oh, & please be sure to know the difference between dwarf & black elderflowers. Use only the black variety which are on strong shrub/trees & smell sweet, the same plant that produces the elderberry for juice etc. The dwarf is more like a strong weed, smells nasty. And don't over do it, the elder is toxic to some extent depending on use. Don't want any Blipers not answering to "Peek-a-boo".
