At the Oxford Playhouse. If you are part of a lesbian couple and your partner becomes a trans man, what does that make you? Straight? This slightly farcical examination of sexual identity and gender was fun and heartbreaking at times. I bumped into two lots of friends whose teenage children are struggling with issues to do with their identity and who have had to transition themselves from being parents of daughters to sons, to breaking the habits of calling a child one name to another, and the agonies of self harm, depression and seeing their child suffer so much to become who they believe they really are.
Today we also heard that Sally and John were convicted of funding terrorism for sending money to their son in Syria is a desperate bid to get him home alive. I have a photo of a 7-aside football team with my son and his friends aged 8 or 9. Of those children, Josh is in Hong Kong looking at architecture with his brother and father. Jack is in a Kurdish prison in Syria, and the boy next to him is not only the friend my son went travelling in Thailand with earlier this year, but also the young British soldier that Jack allegedly threatened to kill on social media which formed part of the case against his parents.
When I look at the photo of those young footballers now, I wonder how it all came to this. And I feel very very grateful for all the good things in my life.
