Dungeness
After a leisurely breakfast we checked out of Beckets Barn and drove a few miles down the road to Rye where we had a wander round the town and then visited Lamb House which is another National Trust Property. It's a Georgian house in the centre of the town which has an amazing walled garden, that's the biggest in Rye. It's a little oasis of tranquillity with lots of places to sit and relax, and a nice walled courtyard where there's a tea room, so we sat and had a drink under the shade of the trees, it really was very peaceful.
We then went on to Dungeness as we last visited it a few years ago, but it's such an interesting and unusual place that we've been wanting to go back - you can read about it here if you're interested. We'd taken a picnic with us, but it was so windy that we decided to sit in the car and eat it, and then we went to have a look at the two light houses before strolling along the beach looking at the boats and fishermen's huts. It was quite sad as we found a lot of Dog Fish that had been washed up and stranded when the tide went out, so unfortunately they'd all died - easy pickings for the seagulls!
We left about 5pm and had a good journey home (about 2 hours) and were welcomed back by the boys who had had a good week with Charlotte. As it was such a lovely evening, we sat in the Palace with the door open and had a couple of glasses of rose - the perfect way to end our little holiday.
