Why did the hedgehog cross the road? ...

Around 3pm this afternoon I saw this hedgehog crossing the road. Usually if you see a nocturnal creature/bird out in the daylight it means that they are in trouble. I got a good look at it and it seemed very well and healthy - no obvious signs of mites & it moved very well. It shuffled underneath a car, hung about at the side of the road and then shuffled into the nearest garden to find a place to hide. Anyone think differently & know more than me re how well it is?
