Splash of scarlet

“The trouble with geraniums
is that they’re much too red!
The trouble with my toast is that
it’s far too full of bread.”

So says the first verse of a poem in ‘A book of Nonsense’ by Melvyn Peake, published in 1972.

Too red? That’s what I love about them. Such a lovely splash of scarlet in the summer flower beds.
