Under the Moonlight (the Serious Moonlight)
Day 2 of Africa Oyé wasn’t blessed with yesterday’s glorious weather and, I confess, I bailed out when the skies became too threatening. So, sadly, I missed the last couple of acts (but made it home before the rain became torrential).
Nonetheless, I was around to enjoy...
The UK’s own rising star Tabitha Jade.
The superb Carlou D from Senegal, whose energetic performance and dazzling dance moves had the crowd eating from the palm of his hand.
The spiritual stylings of Jamaica’s Jah9 and her band The Dub Treatment - putting the roots back into reggae for the 21st century.
And the electrifying, mind-blowing, voodoo blues of today’s main Blip subject, Moonlight Benjamin.
Born and raised in Haiti but now resident in France, Moonlight is a voodoo priest, and a performer par excellence!
If you’re into the Black Keys or the White Stripes, you really MUST check Moonlight out - frankly, she knocks them into the proverbial cocked hat! A word, too, for her incendiary band, Matthis Pascaud (guitar), Matthieu Vial-Collet (guitar), Quentin Rochas (bass), Bertrand Noël (drums).
It was lovely to bump into fellow Blipper SJB too! www.blipfoto.com/entry/2589797300805044807
I’ve added a selection of Extra pictures from the day. Roll on next year!
Today’s tune is ‘Memwan’’ by the marvellous Moonlight Benjamin www.youtube.com/watch?v=HshFoAVWtBQ
