Luis Carlos
My brother Luis (10/25/1940-6/12/2019) was kind, funny, and gentle. He possessed a great sense of humor and loved music—all kinds of music—books, and fine food.
He was born in Barranquilla, Colombia, but spent most of his childhood in Bogotá. He graduated from the Gimnasio Moderno High School in Bogotá, and then traveled to Europe to study architecture. He got his degree from the Academie Royale Des Beaux Arts in Brussels in 1966, and then moved to San Francisco, California, where he lived 16 years practicing architecture. He started as an architectural draftsman at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill Architects and moved on to work as an architect responsible for all design phases at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc. He also was a well read and traveled California hippie.
He enriched my life immensely and was very close to me and my family. It was an honor and a blessing to be his sister. I’ll miss him very much.
