Recycling Reality
As we complete the relocation of my son and his family, we had to dispose of cardboard, plastic, and other materials. This took us to a part of the city seldom visited by tourists, the waste management areas. We packed our items very tightly into the car.
The recycling center was quite interesting. It is also a center where many of the people who live collecting recyclable from the streets come to sell their harvest of plastics, glass, cans, cardboard, etc.
I was able to shoot one photo before being warned against it. The image is of the recyclables after compaction and packaging in plastic and wiring by a hydraulic machine.
The experience certainly raises one’s awareness of the amount of trash we produce as well as the number of people that live on the margins and are part of the industry. Each item, can, plastic bag, paper, dirty or clean, has to be processed either by nature or reused.
Not a pretty photo today. Certainly part of my journal and my journey.
