Solstice
Shall I tell you something nice? It's when your kids or, in this case, one of your kids suggests - entirely of their own volition - doing something that you've done together previously; I think it shows how much they enjoyed it.
The Minx and miniMinx are unavailable and Dan is playing in a friend's fundraiser, this evening, and I thought Abi would be happy - prefer, in fact - to stay in, so I was delighted when she suggested we go to Heysham Beach, as we have done before, to watch the sun set on this, the longest day of the year.
We had a bite to eat at Avanti - see my extra - and then drove across to the coast, arriving perhaps twenty minutes before the sun was due to set. We took our blankets, found a bench, and sat looking out over the sea. There was a little to much cloud on the horizon for us to get a clear view of the actual sunset; I took this with perhaps ten minutes to go.
We stayed a bit longer, after sundown, as it was still fairly light, and we listened to the sea and watched the people down on the beach, snug as we were under our blankets.
