A Boatload of Boats
Our last day in Maine. We took a six hour boat trip on the Kennebec River (and other tributaries) from Bath to Boothbay Harbor, where they are celebrating "Windjammer Days" for the next three or four days. The harbor was full of the most beautiful schooners and other types of sailboats such as Friendship sloops, and they sailed around the outer harbor for everyone to admire. We were also lucky to see several lighthouses, porpoises, loads of seals sunning themselves on the rocks, cormorants, egrets, blue herons, ospreys, and even a bald eagle! When we set off, the weather was cool, gray, and a bit foggy -- just as the weather forecasters had predicted, but then just as we started watching the parade of windjammers, the sun broke through the clouds and shone for a couple of hours before the clouds moved back in. Those couple of hours were more than enough time for Jackson, me, and Mr. W to come home with tomato red faces!!!!
Extras: Any takers? (Funny sign on the wharf at Boothbay Harbor), Cuckolds Lighthouse, and an osprey nesting atop a channel marker.
