Mother swan at her nest with remaining cygnet.

This little cygnet is the only survivor of this year's brood, after a dog attacked the cob, male swan and distressed the precious family.
The swans mate for life and this makes it all the more tragic.
The mother, pen, was being very protective, and I took this shot by zooming up from the far side of the canal path.
It is such a perfect day here, only 19c but blue skied and close.
