Nant Gwrtheyrn
Sometimes referred to as the Nant. This area was a former quarry which was abandoned midway through World War 11. The quarry opened in 1861, it produced setts used for road surfacing which was mainly shipped out by sea. After the quarry closed,the community dispersed and the cottages fell into disrepair. . It was occupied by hippies in the 1960's and following that a trust acquired it and it reopened as it is today. Including a wedding chapel, language centre, cafe and Hertiage centre and a former cottage as it was. The hillside is full of the scars of the former quarry.
