Bad News

Did some weeding this morning (in the sun ………...Yay!) until my back said I was to stop - and then went to do a bit of turning in the garage.

However, as I looked out the window my blood ran cold when I saw these leaves on stems pushing towards 7' tall ……………… Japanese Knotweed!
It can grow up to 4" a day and the roots down 6'-10' and grow through concrete and undermine foundations.
It is actually in my neighbours garden - just, but it will have to be dealt with pretty darn quickly.
I have given her the bad news and she is going to get in touch with some specialists tomorrow.
I have since done a clear up in that part of the garden and will be up to the dump tomorrow (when it is actually open …. for 4 hours!

I was taking pictures of the hoverfly when I became aware of the bumblebees. They were well aware of me and were getting a bit irate. It turns out they have built a nest in the steps from the patio to the decking.
No more weeding out the back for a while then - they are obviously loving the weeds.

There seems to be something wrong with Jay this evening - he was reluctant to come in and didn't want anything to eat. He also wasn't keen to lie on me and be stroked (which is unheard of) and has gone back out, where he walked to the end of the path, sat down and looked left, looked right, but didn't cross the road.
