Microcosmic

Delving into the area that passes for a flowerbed but is in fact a matted tangle of couch grass, bracken and bindweed, I noticed a dry black twig  dotted with what looked like grains of sugar. Aha, I thought, and took it to a lens. Magnified, the specks turned into the tiny fungal goblets to be seen here.
