Merkland

Grocery shopping in Kilsyth and coffee in Kirkintilloch were just about the highlights of my day, until I decided to go for a walk around Merkland Local Nature Reserve in Kirkintilloch and enjoy some of the afternoon sunshine.

Dotted around the Reserve are a number of carved wooden sculptures, some, like this fox, hidden among the trees and bushes.

The local council are resurfacing some of the paths and improving the drainage in places, so I had to avoid a convoy of small but very noisy vehicles at one point (and also avoid the plumes of dust they were creating) and make a detour at another due to the path being closed. Elsewhere, however, other council workers were sowing mixed grass seeds on newly turned-over soil, so it looks as if there's some investment in the park.
