Usher Hall, Edinburgh
To counteract some of the feasting we've been indulging in, we decided to walk into the city centre today. If our mission to visit the Farmers' Market had been successful, we'd have only succeeded in buying more food!
However, our quest for a New Year steak pie from the market was in vain and we ended up walking all the way to the east end of the city to visit Crombies where they were selling steak pies as fast as they could fill the shelves.
This necessitated a visit to Artisan Roast for a fine coffee to revive us and set us up for the return trip. Freshly roast beans from Sumatra and Brazil we were assured. A hint of liquorice in the flavour I thought.
Discovered free ebook downloading from our local library yesterday, so the Usher Hall blip is in relation to reading "The Sunday Philosophy Club" by Alexander McCall Smith, where the action opens with a tragic death in this very place. I'm reading this whole series in the wrong order, but it's just the way it's happened. The reading will develop into a series of blogs in due course... plans for 2013 afoot.
