The Boys Are Back In Town
So... finally the day came and the reason for our trip over the pond. We started it by zipping over to Boston airport to pick up the hire car then heading 130 miles west to North Adams, where the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art hosts the Solid Sound festival every 2 years. Our tip top favourite band, Wilco, co-host it since 2010 and we've always wanted to attend. The band play different sets over 3 nights and help curate the rest of the festival.
Although we've been on the east coast of the US several times, it has only been visiting cities So driving through the state was lovely, quaint old towns and great views. We arrived in North Adams mid afternoon, unpacked into the local art college's dorm rooms and headed over. The weather was fab, although rain/thunderstorms might be expected tomorrow! The first set we watched was our old Aussie pal, Courtney Barnett whom I have blipped several times and unbeknown to us was pals with Wilco.
So Wilco's first set was a Karaoke Night! They had asked fans to submit audition videos of them singing a Wilco song and they then chose a selection of them to perform those songs with them. So we had 30 minutes of Wilco, then an hour with 10 guests singing Wilco, with the band supporting, including one with Courtney, then a final 30 minutes of the band. It was a great night and may be one of my favourite Wilco gigs as the guests gave a different take on the songs and everyone seemed to have so much fun.
Ah... happy dreams... a full day of it tomorrow!!
