Packed
Last year, when I went to inspect the gooseberry crop, I found there were none. Odd, because there had been a reasonable set.
Now I know the reason, as I have had to shoo away a determined pigeon several times lately. The berries should be left to mature into plump, juicy globes but, if I leave them any longer there will be none, so we picked the best of them this morning, just over 2kg..
Not having much freezer space I have bottled half, here they are, packed into the jars, ready for the syrup and one minute's pressure-cooking to sterilise. Then I stewed another quarter to freeze and the rest Mr Flum has promised to make into a crumble.
Perfect timing, because for the rest of the afternoon it has been teeming with rain.
