Weoley Castle Ruins

These ruins are only a few miles away from home but it has taken us 4 or 5 attempts to find them and satnav seems a bit confused by the whole situation.  They are quite well hidden away and the sign is obscured by some foliage.  We were out relatively early this morning as Rob had an eye check up at the hospital at 8.15am so the roads were quieter than normal for us to cruise around slowly looking for some castle ruins.  Weoley Castle was actually a fortified manor house and was built about 750 years ago.  It is one of the oldest visible buildings in Birmingham, is a scheduled ancient monument and originally belonged to the Dudley family.  I see from looking at their website that they have some open days and guided tours so we might try and get to one of those.

We have had a lovely afternoon with big nephew doing a bbq for us.  There was my sister, my dad, Rob and me, James' girlfriend Vicki, and her parents.  This was the first time that the two families had met up and all seemed to go well.  Conversation never wavered and we were there for about 7 Hours.  Nice.
