Mono Monday Challenge: Patriotic
A new month, a new Mono Monday host, Carolina, and a new challenge; 'Patriotic'. And what could be more patriotic than a good old herd of British Beef? I know, I know. Shortly after this shot was taken I was well and truly sniffed by wet noses, and my arm licked by a very rough tongue.
It's a funny old thing, patriotism. Over here we get the impression that in the US all someone needs to do is put up a flag and everyone will put their hand on their heart and sing the 'Star Spangled Banner'. I'm sure it isn't as simple as that but we're a bit different. We're the United Kingdom, but the Scottish Nationalists want out of it, as do the Irish Catholics, and the Protestants want in. We're part of Europe, but the Brexiteers want to leave, and the Remainers want to stay. One County in England has a not insignificant group who would like to be independant. We have a Union Flag representing all countries of the UK but if a company uses it on a product made in Scotland they get accused of getting it wrong. If someone puts up a Scottish flag in Scotland or a Welsh Flag in Wales they are being patriotic, but if someone puts up an England flag the first thought is probably 'football hooligan'. At least it gives us something to talk and argue about, hopefully on a friendly basis. 'Vive la difference', you might say. Unless you're a Brexiteer.
