Old Man of Hoy
Backblip
Third (.or is it fourth) time lucky and I have got this photo to upload!
After a leisurely full Scottish breakfast (groan!) at the B & B we drove the short distance to the ferry port at Scrabster for our super smooth crossing to Stromness in Orkney. The ferry passed quite close to the island of Hoy and gave us a great view of the Old Man, its famous stack.
A visit to the local supermarket to stock up with supplies and then on to our holiday lodge at Orphir by a very circuitous route. Trust us to get lost on our first day here:-)
The lodge is lovely with a view over the huge expanse of Scapa Flow and the owner is a delightful elderly Orcadian lady who has very strong views on incomers who want to change the old ways!
We had no sooner unpacked and enjoyed a cup of tea when the power went off:-).Welcome to Orkney (was it something we said?) Actually it may have had something more to do with the massive thunder storm and torrential rain that followed and which completely obliterated the view!
Forecast is not looking great but hope it doesn’t stop us getting out and about. People to meet and places to see:-)
