Anticipation
Another day in the park, only this time it was Riverside Park along Riverside Drive, also within walking distance of the apartment. The breeze off the Hudson was heavenly and the playground was completely shaded with a lovely canopy of tall trees. Lots of water play, and swinging. Here she is waiting for her mother to either bring out a snack or the bubbles. The crowd at the park thinned out as the little ones all headed home for lunch and nap. Our little one has been resistant to naps lately, so after a bit a scooting (see yesterday's blip) along the promenade, we popped her into the stroller and kept walking. She finally fell asleep and we stopped at the Pier 1 Cafe for a snack and a cold drink.
A huge storm blew in as we were sitting there under the cafe umbrellas which were useless in the horizontal rain so we sought shelter quickly under Riverside drive and waited until it passed. She managed to sleep for over an hour and then we headed home.
We went out to dinner at the Italian restaurant around the corner. When she got restless, I put her on my lap and entertained her with pictures I have on my phone. When I came to a picture of her with the Dollhouse that Grandpa had made for her, I whispered in her ear, "you tell Momma and Daddy that you want to come to Nana and Grandpa's house sometime soon." When we started to leave the restaurant, she announced that she wanted to go to our house NOW and then proceeded to meltdown when her parents tried to explain that they would go another time. I sheepishly fessed-up to having planted that little seed, and we were soon able to distract her. I forgot that a 2-year-old doesn't quite understand "soon " beyond the next few minutes.
