Evening hike on Loch Lomondside
On what would have been the late ex-Laird's birthday the young MacFreuchies and I decided on an evening jaunt to the Cashel Forest where we had scattered his ashes. Tomorrow will be the third anniversary of his death.
After visiting 'his' tree we continued on the path which zigzags up the hill, hoping for some fine scenes of Loch Lomond, but were mostly disappointed with ferns and trees obliterating the views. I liked this one with the evening sun shining on the water.
Further up the hill we were about to turn back when we saw a man approaching us on an electric bicycle. He turned out to be Steve, a friend I used to play badminton with, who now runs the visitor centre at the forest, and he recommended the 'red' path back down for its spectacular views. He was right - see extra.
We finished our jaunt with a late picnic at Balmaha, but were driven out by the annoying midges!
Extra - some of the many islands in the southern end of the loch
