tempus fugit

Arachnophilia

I have to be cautious in the garden now to avoid disturbing the nests of nursery web spiders attached to plant stems and leaves above the ground.

I've written about them at length in a previous blip but I love them so much I photograph them every time.

Here are two examples. On the left you can see mother spider guarding her egg sac within the protective tent she has woven, and on the right the spiderlings have hatched out,  the tent is torn and the egg sac broken apart (but maybe being consumed by the youngsters). One leg of the spider mother dangles down, showing that she is still on guard above as her babies start to explore their woven nursery.

How can anyone fail to be touched by such a sight?
